Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is very different today, in both magnitude and makeup, than a mere two decades ago. COPD is rapidly becoming one of the world' s most serious health issues affecting millions of people. About one on four adults age 35 and over can be expected to develop COPD.
