Thoracic Surgical Oncology Fellowship

May 2019

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, a member of the prestigious National Comprehensive Cancer Network and the only upstate New York facility to hold the National Cancer Center designation of “comprehensive cancer center,” is pleased to be accepting applications for its Thoracic Surgery Oncology Fellowship. This fellowship will provide a concentrated experience to the general thoracic surgeon in the area of advanced thoracoscopic and other minimally invasive techniques as well as immersion in a center devoted entirely to oncology care. Previous training in a cardiothoracic residency or similar setting is encouraged, but not required. Candidates must have the credentials to attain New York State licensure.

The thoracic surgery service at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center performs a broad spectrum of surgical procedures for both malignant and benign conditions of the lung, esophagus and mediastinum and consists of six fulltime surgical faculty. The thoracic surgical experience will focus on, but not be limited to advanced thoracoscopic (VATS) lung resection techniques, robotic assisted thoracic procedures, complex airway reconstruction, and minimally invasive esophagectomy. Elective rotations tailored to candidates’ interests are available during the one-year fellowship, and include focused clinical experiences in thoracic radiation oncology, imaging, pathology, and/or and interventional bronchoscopy. Participation in approved personal or ongoing departmental laboratory or clinical research projects is required.

The ideal candidate for this fellowship desires a career on non-cardiac thoracic surgery, and upon completion of this training program will be prepared to assume a prominent role in a center devoted to minimally invasive thoracic surgery as well as advanced multidisciplinary thoracic oncologic care including academic health care environments.
