In cancer, the association of sarcopenia with poor nutrition, lipolysis, inflammatory status and vicious metabolic cycles promote the occurrence of cachexia, a nutritional and psychological condition considered as the direct cause of death in at least 20% of patients with advanced cancers (2-4).
