Ulrik Sartipy, MD PhD

Dr. Ulrik Sartipy is a cardiac surgeon at the Heart and Vascular Theme, Karolinska University Hospital and an associate professor at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. His main research interests include clinical epidemiology and heart disease, and his group perform nationwide population-based register studies in several cardiovascular research areas such as coronary artery disease and aortic valve replacement. His clinical field is adult cardiac surgery, and he is the lead pulmonary endarterectomy surgeon at Karolinska University Hospital. He specializes in minimally invasive aortic valve replacement and surgical myectomy for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
Dr. Ulrik Sartipy received his Medical Degree in 1997, and his PhD in 2007 from Karolinska Institutet. He completed his residency in cardiothoracic surgery in 2006 at the Karolinska University Hospital and was appointed associate professor in 2009 at Karolinska Institutet. In addition to clinical and research activities, he participates in teaching undergraduate medical students and supervises PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. He is a member of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, the Scandinavian Association for Thoracic Surgery, and the Swedish Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery. He was the 2013 recipient of the Ingegerd and Viking Olov Björk Scholarship for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Research.
