Joachim Pfannschmidt, MD

Dr. Joachim Pfannschmidt is a graduate from Westfälische-Wilhelms-University Münster, Germany, during that time he also spent prolonged study periods at Oxford University and Harvard Medical School. In 1989 he entered internship and residency at the Department of Thoracic- and Cardiothoracic Surgery, University of Cologne. After performing a residency in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery at the Central Hospital Reinkenheide, Bremerhaven he joined the Department of Surgery, Thoraxklinik at Heidelberg University Hospital in 1999. There he received the Venia legendi in Surgery and became Professor of Surgery. At the Lung Clinic Heckeshorn he has been Chief of Thoracic Surgery since 2013. His scientific work includes editorial work and more than 100 publications in international scientific journals.

 Dr. Pfannschmidt´s interest include minimally as well as extensive invasive surgical treatment of lung cancer, surgery for pulmonary metastases, tumors of the mediastinal organs, and surgical reconstruction of the airways.
