Dr. Henrik Jessen Hansen is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon and Head of the Minimal Invasive thoracic program) at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen. The department has the largest program in VATS (thoracoscopic) Lobectomies in Europe with 250 VATS Lobectomies performed annually. The standardized anterior Copenhagen technique – developed by Dr. Hansen is the leading way to do the operations throughout Europe and the Department does teach this to huge numbers of visiting surgeons. Dr. Hansen does also teach the technique at many meetings and visits at different hospitals throughout Europe.

Dr. Henrik Jessen Hansen was Congress President at the 22th European Conference In General Thoracic Surgery, Copenhagen June 2014 and was member of the ESTS Council 2010–14.

His main clinical interests focus on Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery, VATS Lobectomies and Segmentectomies, Thoracic Oncology Minimal invasive and Pediatric Thoracic Surgery. The research interests and main publications of Dr. Henrik Jessen Hansen focus on Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery, Quality of care and Clinical Audit, Surgical Technique and Postoperative management of thoracic surgery patients.
