Kazuma Okamoto, MD, PhD

Dr. Okamoto graduated from Medical school, Keio University, Tokyo, Japan in 1999. He worked as a trainee in the department of surgery at Keio University and affiliated hospitals for 6years as a resident. Dr. Okamoto trained at oversea institutes as a clinical fellow in Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, OLV Clinic, Aalst, Belgium during 2007-2008, Department of Cardiac Surgery, IRCCS Istituto Policlinico San Donato, San Donato Milanase, Italy, during 2008-2009, and Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Chiang Mai University, Thailand in 2010.
He joined the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of Keio University as a faculty staff and an associate professor in year 2012. In 2016 Dr. Okamoto moved to Akashi Medical Center. Dr. Okamoto specializes in adult cardiac, minimally invasive valve surgery, and mitral repair. He has extensive experience in minimally invasive mitral valve repair with over 300 cases as well as complex adult cardiac surgeries. He has also been actively involved with transcatheter aortic valve replacement program.
He is the Director of Minimally Invasive Valve surgery of Akashi Medical Center. His research interests encompass minimally invasive cardiac surgery, valvular heart disease, and surgical simulation/education. Dr. Okamoto regularly presents at national/international meetings and plays an important role in development and spread in minimally invasive cardiac surgery. He was the past vice President of the JAYCS (Japanese Association for Yound Cardiac Surgery).
