Don Hayes, MD, MS, MEd is the Medical Director of the Advanced Lung Disease Program and the Lung and Heart-Lung Transplant Programs at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University. His clinical interests include supporting or “bridging” patients with severely advanced lung disease to lung transplant with artificial lung technology and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). He also leads research efforts to further advance treatment of patients with severe lung disease.
He completed his medical training at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine graduating with honors. He pursued his combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. He then completed fellowships in adult and pediatric pulmonary medicine and sleep medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health with specialized training in advanced lung disease and lung transplantation.Focused Issue: Heart-Lung Transplantation.
