Professor Jin-Shing Chen is the Professor of Department of Surgery at the National Taiwan University. He received his MD degree and PhD degree at National Taiwan University, and his specialty training in Surgery and Thoracic Surgery at the National Taiwan University Hospital. In 2002, he was a research fellow at the MD Anderson Cancer Center of The University of Texas, USA.
Prof. Chen has been actively involved in clinical research in the treatment for primary spontaneous pneumothorax and minimal invasive surgery for lung cancer. He developed minocycline pleurodesis as an adjuvant therapy to prevent pneumothorax recurrence for patients with primary spontaneous pneumothorax and published several prospective randomised clinical trials in top-ranked journals, such as The Lancet (2013). He also developed a novel operation technique of “nonintubated thoracoscopic surgery”. Using this technique, more than 400 lung cancer surgeries were safely performed without endotracheal intubation. The results were published in top-ranked surgical journals, such as The Annals of Surgery (2011). Currently he is the Chief of Experimental Surgical Division of the National Taiwan University Hospital, and served on the editorial board of The Journal of Formosan Medical Association and as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Thoracic Disease.Focused Issue: Minimal invasive thoracic surgery.
