In 1995, Dr. Wrigge graduated and received his medical degree from Georg-August-University of Göttingen, Germany, where he started his residency in Anaesthesiology. He completed his residency at University of Bonn, Germany, and became specialist for Anaesthesiology and the sub-specalitiest listed above. Dr. Wrigge completed his PhD thesis in 2004 and joined the faculty as Associate Professor at the University of Bonn, where he became Vice Chair of the Intensive Care Medicine and in 2008 of the Department of Anaesthesiology. In 2010, he moved on a full Professor and Vice Chair position at Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine in Leipzig, Germany.
Dr. Wrigge is active member in several national and international Intensive Care and Anaesthesiology Societies and served as national representative in the council of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) for three years. He is member of the research council of the German Sepsis Network (SEPNET) and speaker of the lung section in the translational research network (TIFONET) of the German Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (DGAI).
His fields of research include respiratory physiology and pathophysiology, mechanical ventilation strategies, lung volume measurement and compartment analysis of gas distribution, modes of partial ventilator support, ventilation associated lung injury and inflammation, pulmonary imaging, electrical impedance tomography, chest trauma, and microdialysis for measurement of tissue pharmacokinetics of antibiotics.
