René Horsleben Petersen, MD, PhD

Dr. Petersen is Chief thoracic surgeon at the department of Cardiothorac Surgey at Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet and Clinical Associate Research Professor at the University of Copenhagen. He is an international expert in Minimal Invasive Thoracic Surgery and has personal experience of undertaking more than 1400 Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) Lobectomies, Segmentectomies and Thymectomies at his centre, which is leading in Europe with more than 3000 VATS Lobectomies and Segmentectomies performed overall.
In more than a decade Dr. Petersen has led clinical immersions at his centre with participation from many clinics in Europe, and he has proctored many thoracic surgeons in VATS Lobectomy by a Standardized Anterior Approach. He has given numerous lectures and educational seminars on VATS Lobectomy, performed live surgery and presented at numerous international conferences.
He has published widely in international peer-reviewed journals within the topics: VATS Lobectomy, VATS Segmentectomy, VATS Thymectomy, VATS Education and Simulation, Enhanced Recovery and Lung Cancer Screening.
He acts as a councillor of the European Society of Thoracic Surgery (ESTS). He is on the editorial board and reviewer for several scientific journals.He holds a bachelor’s degree in health care management.
