Director of the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit in San Raffaele Hospital; leading the mechanical circulatory support program

Dr Pappalardo graduated in 1989 in Catania Medical School and completed his residency program in Anesthesia and Intensive Care at The Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in 2000. 

Since December 2000, he has joined the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Department in San Raffaele Hospital, Vita-Salute University, Milan. In 2009-10, he has attended a fellowship program in ‘Mechanical Circulatory Support’ at the German Heart Institute, Berlin (Germany).

His major interest is focused on short and long term devices for heart failure, biocompatibility and biomechanics. He is member of the Italian Network for the treatment of severe respiratory failure with VV ECMO.
