Esteban C. Gabazza, MD, PhD

Dr. Gabazza graduated as Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the Asuncion National University School of Medicine. He completed his Medical Internship and Internal Medicine Residency at the National University of Asuncion, and received his PhD Degree from Mie University Graduate School of Medicine under the Sponsorship of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan. In 1997, Dr. Gabazza joined the faculty at Mie University Faculty and Graduate School of Medicine, Japan, where he became Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor of the Third Department of Internal Medicine. In 2006, Dr. Gabazza became Professor of Medicine at the Faculty and Graduate School of Medicine, Mie University, Japan.
Dr. Gabazza is Full Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Immunology, Mie University Faculty and Graduate School of Medicine. He is also Director of Mie University Center for Intractable Diseases, and Chair of the International Exchange Committee of the Mie University Faculty and Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. Gabazza is member of the Editorial Board of Medicine. From 2013, he is Scientific and Medical Adviser at Matsusaka Municipal Hospital, from 2014 External Committee Member of the Top Global University Project, Kanazawa University, Japan, and Teaching Board Member of the Research Doctorate in Translational Medicine and Surgery of Perugia University, Italy.
The focus of Dr. Gabazza’s research is on the mechanism of fibrotic, malignant and allergic diseases of the lung and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. He has received several grants from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan. He has been the Principal Investigator or co-investigator of more than 20 funded grants and has published over 270 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
