Professor Alain Bernard is thoracic surgeon. Currently, he is Head of Heart, pulmonary and vascular department in the Academic Hospital of Dijon.

With its degrees in clinical research and evaluation, he became involved in the evaluation of medical and Health technology. In 2005, he was appointed to the specialist committee of the Haute Autorité de Santé (CNEDiMTS) that evaluates medical devices. In 2008 to 2013, he became vice chair of this committee (CNEDIMTS). 

Professor Alain Bernard has written several articles on the methodology of clinical trials of medical devices. He participated in the drafting of guidebook medical device assessment in France. Currently he is currently writing a guide on the methodology of clinical trials suitable for the evaluation of medical devices and post-market study.

On the other hand, he has produced several publications on comparative effectiveness using propensity scores from the national database Epithor and French medico-administrative database.
