The 6th Asian Single Port VATS Symposium 2018 in Philippines on March 23-24, 2018

Published: 2018-01-16

Dear colleagues and friends,

On behalf of the organizing committee, I am pleased to invite you to the 6th Asian Single Port VATS Symposium (ASPVS) which will be in Quezon City, the Philippines on March 23 and 24, 2018.

Interestingly, the theme of next year's symposium is "The Past, Present and Future of Single Port VATS --- Withstanding the Test of Time." The field of minimally invasive thoracic surgery has expanded by leaps and bounds during the last few years and the very specialized discipline of single port VATS even more so. It is time to ask the difficult questions in single port VATS, that of training, credentialing and incorporation into a thoracic surgical program and a database as a tool for further research.

The Scientific Committee has invited respected single port VAT surgeons to update us on advances in single port VATS, present local experience in Asia and emphasize video-based education of technical details. Furthermore, a live surgery session will be held at the Lung Center of the Philippines, the only tertiary hospital for chest diseases in the Philippines. Two parallel sessions, one for anesthesiologists and another for operating room nurses, will also be held, the first time it will be done for the ASPVS. There will also be video presentations and preparations are underway to publish the proceedings of the symposium in the Journal of Visualized Surgery (JOVS).

The Organizing Committee is confident that the 6th ASPVS will further cooperation among thoracic surgeons not only in Asian countries but elsewhere in the thoracic surgical world.

With the promise of traditional Filipino hospitality, I am anticipating your attendance in the 6th ASPVS.

Mabuhay,

Federico C. Sanchez, MD
Honorary Chair of the Organizing Committee
6th ASPVS
