Preface
The management of indeterminate pulmonary lesions increasingly has become an especially interesting topic as a consequence of several factors: renewed interest in lung cancer screening, the increased incidence of ground glass opacities, particularly amongst the younger non-smoking population, along with the advances in the molecular and technical aspects of the field resulting in changes in the diagnostic and treatment strategies that are now available.
Of note, changes in less invasive strategies and approaches to these issues, especially as it relates to bronchoscopy not only has resulted in an increased diagnostic role but also a potentially therapeutic one, as well as improvements and enhancements in pre- and intra-procedural imaging, emerging indications for sublobar resections, as well as other non-surgical options such as stereotactic body radiotherapy, have all influenced how we manage this condition. Furthermore, it has brought those from different specialties with similar interest closer together for the benefit of our patients. This special issue aims to provide an update and address some of the controversies relating to these topics.
