Expanding the knowledge of oligometastatic disease—but uncertainties remain significant

Joachim Pfannschmidt

Abstract

Most patients with lung cancer present with advanced disease at the time of diagnosis, when local curative therapy is no longer a treatment option. Among patients with early lung cancer, who are initially treated in curative intent, 6–7% will go on to develop oligometastases, where the metastatic spread is limited in number and site (1).
