Journal of Thoracic Disease (JTD) is pleased to announce that its Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Prof. Nanshan Zhong, recently accepted the invitation from The Lancet Respiratory Medicine (LRM), to be on the staff of its inaugural International Advisory Board. LRM is a new Lancet specialty journal to launch early in 2013. Recruitment of LRM’s International Advisory Board members is rigorously based on the expertise, academic reputation, and publication of the potential candidates, and therefore represents an international, all-round recognition of the invitee’s achievement in the field of respiratory medicine. Meanwhile, Prof. Zhong’s participation in the LRM Advisory Board would pave a new way for JTD to boost its communication and exchange with other medical journals worldwide. Dr Nanshan Zhong, MD, FRCS (London), FRCP (Edin), Professor of Medicine, is the Head of Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases, First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College, and Director-General of China State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases. He is a chief scientist or principal investigator in more than ten major projects in China or worldwide. He has published many papers in globally reputed journals, including Nature Medicine, the Lancet, BMJ, and American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and over 200 papers in national Chinese journals. Over the past decades, Professor Zhong has been a leader in promotion of China’s respiratory medicine towards the forefront of international advances. He has organised and participated in developing several Chinese guidelines for diagnosis and management of bronchial asthma, COPD, chronic cough, severe acute respiratory syndrome, and high-pathogenic avian influenza.
