The 6th Annual International Thymic Malignancy Interest Group (ITMIG) Meeting in Shanghai on Oct 23–25 was a resounding success. It was marked by exciting sessions, scientific progress and further development of relationships and collaborations among clinicians, researchers and our industry partners. Thanks to Dr. Wentao Fang and his international program committee, this year’s meeting hit a new record in terms of attendance (241 participants), coming from 20 countries and all major specialties. The atmosphere was marked by enthusiasm, engagement and the open friendly collaboration that characterizes ITMIG events.
This issue has included the meeting abstracts collected from the 2014 Pan Hellenic Congress on Respiratory and Occupational Chest Diseases.
The 10th Anniversary Symposium of Anti-SARS was held in Guangzhou on April 12th by China State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease. With an aim to facilitate communications in follow-up studies of SARS and future efforts to combat emerging respiratory diseases, the symposium looked back at major achievements on related topics. The rise of novel avian influenza virus H7N9 in April of 2013 clearly underlines the impending necessity of this symposium.
On May 25, 2012, the 2012 GCTAB board members’ conference & inaugural meeting of Greater China Thoracoscopic Institute (GCTI) was successfully held in Shanghai, China. All the senior board members of GCTAB attended the meeting. They discussed the future of GCTAB, and witnessed the announcement of the establishment of GCTI. The GCTI mainly aims at combining domestic thoracic surgery experts and educational platforms on various levels together to establish a reasonable training module and to promote thoracoscopic surgery in China.
The 21st Panhellenic Congress of Thoracic Disease, took place in November 2012 in Thessaloniki, Greece and continued this tradition of excellence. To improve the understanding and management of thoracic diseases the Congress faculty offered two postgraduated courses endorsed by the European Respiratory Society (I. Diagnostic Techniques in Respiratory Medicine, II. Non-small Cell Lung Cancer treatment), a number of State of the Art lectures and interactive educational sessions. The Congress was accredited by European Board for Accreditation in Pulmonology and European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education Institution of the U.E.M.S. for 18 C.M.E credits.
The 3rd Asian-Pacific VATS Performance & the 6th China Lung Cancer Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery (MITS) Forum was held in the 1st Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from 12th Oct to 13th Oct, 2012. The meeting is hosted by Chinese Medical Doctor Association MITS Group, Journal of Thoracic Disease (JTD), State Key Laboratory of Pulmonary Disease and Guangdong Mingyi Medical Charity Fund. More than 420 VATS experts and practitioners had participated in the meeting and discussed about the updated development of MITS in lung cancer. The 6th forum proposed a new concept of “Rapid Recovery, Accurate Resectomy & Intra-tumor Radiotherapy” in MITS.
